Seismic Upgrades

Metro Concrete Restoration Services
Typically, Metro installs anchors, adds reinforcing steel and shotcrete and / or concrete as well as carries out grouting to enhance the resistance of structures to seismic forces.

Metro has also developed special grouts to reinstate the capacity of earthquake damaged masonry structures. This grout was used to repair the damage to the Washington State capitol building after the Nisqually earthquake of 2001.

In order to support the suspended concrete slab of this loading dock, and to bring the structure up to the current requirements under the BC Seismic code, 8 new frames, 18 new footings, and 3 new tie beams were constructed.

There was a monumental amount of concrete and steel added to this structure to be better prepared for an earthquake. There were a number of details that complicated the schedule for this project including working around the owners needs, and the needs of other contractors on the same site.
